What A Day, What A Mess!

Wow, today has been a day. It seemed like it went on forever, and yet it's only 11pm right now. I think maybe it's because LongRifle has been very whiney, she just hasn't felt well. Usually, she's pretty resistant to anything, she's tough, thick-skinned, strong, so to have her cry at the drop of a hat is unusual for her and a sure sign that something isn't quite right. That and the fact that she would sit still on someone's lap for more than a minute, a true sign of her not feeling well. And when she does cry, it's that pitiful, sad, cry that makes you want to rip your heart out and head to the ends of the Earth to make things right, make her feel all better.

We did have some bright spots in our day. I don't think I've mentioned it before but we put a baby gate up to seperate the living room from the hallway that leads to the bedrooms. Whenever I go down that hallway and the gate is up Pistol heads right to it, tiptoes so she can poke her little eyes over and begins to shout "I LOVE YOU!!" at the top of her lungs. This ALWAYS makes me laugh and shout back "I LOVE YOU TOO!!" So here's how it went today:

Pistol: I LOVE YOU!!

Me (poking my head out to see her from the bedroom): I LOVE YOU TOO!!

Pistol: I LOVE YOU!!

Me (shouting from inside the bedroom): I ADORE YOU!!

Pistol: I LOVE YOU!!

Me (looking at straight at her from the bedroom door): Yo te quiero mucho!!

Pistol: Yeah, (shaking her head nodding yes)---lol!!

I was just rolling, she just cracks me up! BTW, as long as I am down the hallway she will keep yelling it, over and over (with me shouting it back at her of course) until I am back in the same room with her.

LongRifle said a few sentences today she hadn't said before. She was watching Winnie-the-Pooh and she said "Oh no, Pooh fall down!" Sure enough he had just fallen right on poor Rabbit's head. Later on in the evening, during our routine sticker handout I FINALLY was able to get her to say "Sticker please mamá". Pistol will say please right away because she knows it will get her what she wants, she even drags it out "pwwwweeeaaaase" and has the whole pouty lip and eye thing going. LongRifle holds out until the very end. She'll say "wanna sticker, sure (she answers for me)", "that one sticker", "mamá sticker", she'll say everything but please. She will even point to the sticker she wants and when she realizes that she's going to have to say please before she can have one, well...then she says it.

So I have to write this down, as it's the very first time it's ever happened to me. I've had near misses before, but tonight it was a direct hit. I ran down the hallway because about an hour after we had put LongRifle and Pistol to bed I heard her coughing. I could tell it was one of THOSE coughing fits, the ones that end up with her puking. So I got to her just in time to see her sitting up, still half-asleep, scooped her up and yup, you've probably guessed it by now, she projectile puked all over me. Remaining calm (although the smell was quite nauseating), I hugged her to me, I figured, what harm could it do as we were both covered in it (me more than her). We then headed over to the bathroom for cleanup. Amazingly enough she had very little on her and seemed unfazed by the whole event. No tears, a casual lean over the sink with a little additional puking, a look towards me and my shirt and the simple comment, "mamá, all wet".

DrillSgt. just gave me my props before heading to bed (after I took a shower of course). He raised his hand, gave me a high-five and said, "I gotta hand it to you babe, you handled that like a champ! You didn't even flinch when you picked her up and she threw up on you like the exsorcist." I looked over at him sitting on the couch next to me and simply said, "Do you know what kind of mess that would have made in her crib?!" LOL!!

I hear you. The worst part, for me, about late night puking is wrestling a new crib sheet on a mattress at 2:00 a.m.

Glad to hear you saved the day.
